2.4 metre concrete sleepers are the go-to choice for large-scale retaining wall projects where maximum span and structural efficiency are essential. This extended length allows for fewer posts along long runs, reducing overall material and labour costs.

Commonly used in commercial developments, acreage properties and engineered retaining walls, 2.4m sleepers are built to handle higher loads while maintaining alignment and stability across wider spans. Taller engineered walls pair this length with the 150 heavy duty or super heavy duty post series.

Choosing 2.4m Concrete Sleepers

Length sets your post spacing, not your wall capacity. A 2.4m sleeper spans 2.4m between post centres, so fewer posts per run than shorter lengths, but each sleeper carries more load between those posts. Thickness (75mm to 100mm) and concrete strength (40MPa or 50MPa, with a 60MPa range in SA) do the structural work, and the steel post series has to match the wall height. Our sleepers are steel reinforced with two N10 or N12 ACRS bars on certified ranges and made to AS3600.

A 75mm-profile 2.4m sleeper approaches 87kg, which is machine-handling territory on most sites. South Australian sleepers pour up to 2.4m at the Lonsdale factory, including the 60MPa high-strength range, and 2.4m is standard across the eastern states.

Order the full wall quantity in one batch: sleeper colour can vary slightly between factory pours, and a face built from two batches shows it. Why do commercial jobs default to 2.4m?

Fewer posts per run is the whole economy of a long wall. Across 50m of wall, 2.4m spacing removes several post holes, footings and steel sections compared with shorter spans.

Do 2.4m sleepers need bigger posts?

They concentrate more load on each post than shorter spans at the same height, which the engineering accounts for. Taller 2.4m-span walls typically run 150 series or super heavy duty posts.
