1.8m Length Concrete Sleepers

1.8 metre concrete sleepers are a popular choice for standard retaining wall builds, offering a practical length that suits most backyard and landscape projects. Long enough to reduce the number of posts required, yet still manageable during installation, this size delivers an efficient balance of coverage and strength.

Ideal for straight runs, boundary walls and medium-height retaining walls where durability and visual consistency are key. Pair them with galvanised steel posts matched to your wall height.

Choosing 1.8m Concrete Sleepers

Length sets your post spacing, not your wall capacity. A 1.8m sleeper spans 1.8m between post centres, so fewer posts per run than shorter lengths, but each sleeper carries more load between those posts. Thickness (75mm to 100mm) and concrete strength (40MPa or 50MPa, with a 60MPa range in SA) do the structural work, and the steel post series has to match the wall height. Our sleepers are steel reinforced with two N10 or N12 ACRS bars on certified ranges and made to AS3600.

A 75mm-profile 1.8m sleeper weighs around 65kg; plan two-person handling or machine assistance. It is one of the most commonly stocked lengths nationally, which makes matching quantities and finishes straightforward.

Order the full wall quantity in one batch: sleeper colour can vary slightly between factory pours, and a face built from two batches shows it. If you are sizing a whole wall, the retaining wall calculator works out sleeper counts, posts and footings together, and our guide to concrete sleeper sizes explains how length, thickness and strength interact.

Why is 1.8m so common?

It is the balance point: long enough to cut post numbers on a standard suburban run, short enough to handle without machinery on most sites.

What posts suit 1.8m spans?

Post series follows wall height: 100 series for low walls, 150 series as height approaches 1.5m, heavier sections beyond that. The span only changes how many posts you need, not the series.
