Where 40 MPa sleepers fit in the Queensland range
Our Queensland concrete sleepers come in two strength tiers, and this is the budget-conscious one. The 40 MPa range keeps the same fundamentals as the dearer tier: steel reinforcement, manufacture to AS3600, and supplier factory batches independently tested twice per week. What you trade down is concrete strength and finish selection, not certification or reinforcement.
Three finishes cover the common briefs. Smooth is the plain, render-like face for walls that will be planted out or hidden behind garden beds; at $32.67 it is the cheapest certified sleeper we sell in Queensland. Driftwood gives a weathered timber look without timber’s rot problem. Hampton Stone dresses the wall as coursed stone for street-facing runs. All three pair with our Queensland galvanised steel posts; pick the post series to suit your engineering, then the sleeper finish to suit the view.
Because these sleepers are poured locally in Brendale and Beenleigh rather than freighted interstate, the 40 MPa range is usually the fastest concrete product we can put on a Queensland site. That local pipeline is also why this range exists at 40 MPa: it is a Queensland-specific product line, sitting alongside the 50 MPa Queensland range for buyers who want higher strength or a wider finish palette.
Is 40 MPa strong enough for my wall?
For most residential garden and terrace walls, yes, subject to your engineer’s specification. If your design calls for a higher strength sleeper, or the wall is over about a metre or near a boundary where Queensland councils commonly require certified engineering, look at the 50 MPa Queensland range and let the drawings decide.
Will the colour match if I order more later?
Order each wall in one batch. Concrete colour varies slightly between pours, and a top-up run months later can read as a visibly different shade on the same wall.
Do I still need drainage on a small wall?
Yes. Drainage gravel and an ag pipe behind every wall, whatever the height. It is the cheapest insurance on the whole job.
