Types of Retaining Wall Installations: Design, Planning, and Construction
Retaining wall installation involves the construction of a structure designed to hold back soil or rock from a building, structure, or area. Retaining walls can be used for a variety of purposes, including creating usable outdoor space, stabilizing slopes, and preventing erosion.
There are several different types of retaining wall installations to choose from, each with its own unique design and construction requirements. Some common types of retaining walls include gravity walls, which rely on their own weight to hold back soil; cantilever walls, which use leverage to support the soil; and anchored walls, which use cables or rods anchored into the ground to support the soil.
When planning a retaining wall installation, it is important to consider the type of soil and slope you are working with, as well as the desired function of the wall. Other factors to consider may include the inclusion of fences, pools, or other landscaping features, as well as any commercial or logistical considerations. Building a retaining wall also requires careful foundation work and may involve the use of specialized equipment. Our partnered retaining wall builders and installers have the expertise and experience to guide you through the entire process, from design to completion.

For a one metre high retaining wall as shown below the hole diameter must be 450mm and the post holes must be dug 1100mm deep. After ensuring that the post tops are the same height, place steel in the hole and concrete
A barrier behind the wall must be installed using a plastic membrane with a aggie pipe 100mm socked and then filled with scoria rock. This will create an area for water collection and movement. The membrane helps keep the voids in the gravel from packing with silt. Room is left above the scoria rock for backfill for topsoil or bedding soil.
