Concrete Retaining Wall Sleepers
Concrete sleepers are the backbone of a modern concrete retaining wall: used for retaining walls, garden edging, steps and boundary walls wherever durability and structural performance matter. Unlike timber, concrete sleepers resist rot, warping, termites and moisture, so they suit long-term outdoor use across residential and commercial projects. Their dense concrete composition and internal steel reinforcement mean concrete retaining walls built from sleepers can go higher when paired with correctly sized galvanised steel posts and engineered drainage.
The build method is simple and does not need formwork or pouring: galvanised posts set in concrete at roughly 2 m centres, sleepers dropped between, drainage gravel and ag pipe behind. Melbourne is our home market, so Victorian stock runs deeper than anywhere else, including 3 m lengths that mean fewer posts on long walls.
Types of concrete sleepers available
Timber-look sleepers replicate the appearance of timber without the maintenance issues of natural wood.
