Blackwood is the smooth charcoal sleeper in our Adelaide range, the middle path between plain grey Lonsdale and the patterned feature ranges. If you want a dark, modern wall at the best price per metre, this is the one. Blackwood sleepers are manufactured at the Lonsdale SA 5160 factory yard, where concrete batches are independently tested twice a week, with pickup by appointment from Lonsdale and delivery across Adelaide metro.
Blackwood matches Lonsdale for size selection, running from short 1.5m lengths to the 2.4m Adelaide maximum:
Size (L x H x T, mm)
---
1500 x 200 x 75
1500 x 200 x 100
1800 x 200 x 75
1800 x 200 x 100
2000 x 200 x 75
2000 x 200 x 100
2000 x 200 x 120
2350 x 200 x 80
2350 x 200 x 100
2400 x 200 x 80
2400 x 200 x 100
It belongs to the 60MPa SA certified range, with a 20-year manufacturer warranty on selected sizes. The shorter 1.5m and 1.8m lengths make Blackwood a favourite for stepped walls and tight side-boundary jobs where full 2.4m panels will not fit.
Blackwood or a patterned charcoal sleeper?
Same colour, different face. Choose Blackwood for a clean flat finish or where the wall is mostly hidden; choose Kensington or McLaren when the wall is a visual feature.
Do charcoal sleepers show efflorescence?
Dark concrete can show temporary white efflorescence as it cures and weathers. It washes off and fades; good drainage behind the wall, such as an ag pipe with slot sock, reduces it.
What posts pair with Blackwood?
75 to 80mm sleepers pair with lighter post sections, 100mm and up with heavier ones. See Adelaide steel posts for the galvanised range.
