Ashwood concrete sleepers are the timber-look option in our Canberra range: a charcoal woodgrain face cast into a 60MPa engineer-certified concrete sleeper, from $52.98. They are the direct answer for Canberra owners who want the warmth of a timber wall but know what the ACT’s frost cycles, reactive clay and termites do to real treated pine.

Ashwood runs a tighter size list than the rest of the range, in the two most common wall thicknesses: 75 to 80mm for garden walls up to around 1.8m on 100 series posts, and 100mm for taller engineered walls on 150 series posts. Does the woodgrain look convincing installed?

At normal viewing distance a stacked Ashwood wall reads as dark stained timber. The grain texture also breaks up light better than a smooth face, which hides minor batch variation.

How does concrete compare with treated pine on cost over time?

Pine is cheaper on day one, but in Canberra conditions timber walls commonly need replacing within 15 to 20 years, taking the fence above with them. A certified concrete and galvanised steel wall is a build-once item.
