This 700 x 48 x 5mm hot-dip galvanised fence bracket, finished black, is the Colorbond-fence variant in our ACT steel range. It fixes to the top of a retaining wall steel post so a Colorbond fence post can be bolted straight above the wall, keeping fence and wall on one engineered footing. At 48mm wide and 5mm thick it is sized for steel fence posts; timber fences need the heavier 700 x 70 x 8mm timber-fence bracket instead.
Colorbond over a sleeper wall is probably the most common boundary build in newer Canberra suburbs. Doing it with brackets rather than separate fence footings avoids the classic ACT failure where a shallow fence footing in reactive clay heaves independently of the wall and the fence line goes wavy. The black finish sits invisibly against dark Colorbond colours and charcoal sleepers such as Blackwood.
Are these compatible with standard Colorbond posts?
Yes, the bracket channel takes standard Colorbond fence posts, which bolt through. We can also weld brackets to your retaining wall posts to spec before dispatch; give us fence type and positions with your post order.
Why hot-dip galvanised?
The bracket lives outdoors at the soil-and-fence junction. Hot-dip galvanising protects the full section, including cut edges, unlike painted or zinc-plated brackets that rust at the bolt holes first.
